Accessibility Policy
At Stepping Stones Farm, we believe that everyone deserves a place to feel welcome, connected and at home.
Whether you are visiting with family and friends, attending a retreat or wellness gathering, boarding your horse or simply seeking a peaceful place to reconnect with nature, we want your experience to be as comfortable, enjoyable and accessible as possible.
We welcome guests of all abilities, including people with disabilities, mobility challenges and sensory needs. We are committed to treating everyone with dignity, respect and consideration, and to making reasonable efforts to accommodate individual accessibility needs.
This policy outlines our approach to accessibility across our property, accommodations, gathering spaces and website.
1. Accessibility of Our Historic Farm and Grounds
Stepping Stones Farm is a unique rural property, and while its historic buildings and natural surroundings are part of its charm, they can also present accessibility challenges.
Guests may encounter uneven ground, gravel pathways, steps, thresholds, slopes and other features that can make access more difficult for people with limited mobility or other disabilities.
Accessibility varies between buildings, rooms and outdoor spaces. We therefore encourage guests with specific requirements to contact us before booking so that we can discuss their needs and help determine whether our facilities will be suitable.
The Homestead
The Homestead is the most accessible of our buildings.
A designated accessible parking space is available, and guests can drive right up to the ADA ramp at the entrance.
We recommend the Library, which adjoins a fully accessible bathroom featuring:
-
A sink that a wheelchair user can reach independently.
-
A toilet equipped with grab rails.
-
A roll-in shower.
The Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen and Sunroom offer open spaces that can be navigated with a wheelchair or walker, with room to move around comfortably.
We welcome service dogs in accordance with applicable laws.
If you have particular requirements concerning room layout, bathroom access, assistance or other facilities, please contact us before booking so that we can discuss the available arrangements.
The Lodge
The Lodge has an accessible ramp, and four bedrooms with bathrooms, the Living Room and the Kitchen are situated on the first floor.
However, the showers and toilets cannot accommodate a wheelchair. Due to the Lodge’s log cabin construction, modifying these facilities is not currently feasible.
For this reason, we do not recommend the Lodge for guests who use a wheelchair and require wheelchair-accessible bathroom facilities.
We encourage guests with other mobility or accessibility requirements to contact us to discuss whether the Lodge would be suitable for their needs.
The Gathering Spaces
The Gathering Spaces on the second floor of the historic barn can be accessed at ground level from the designated entrance.
Reserved parking is available near this entrance, alongside a wheelchair-accessible outdoor portable toilet.
As this is a historic barn, we recommend contacting us before your visit to discuss any specific access requirements.
The Stables and Outdoor Areas
As a working farm and equestrian property, Stepping Stones Farm includes outdoor areas, paths and facilities that may present challenges for visitors with mobility, sensory or other accessibility needs.
Conditions may vary depending on weather, ground conditions and farm activities.
Please contact us before your visit if you would like information about access to the stables, horse-related activities, outdoor spaces or other areas of the property. We will do our best to provide accurate information so that you can plan your visit with confidence.
Service Animals
Service animals are welcome in accordance with applicable laws.
If you are planning to visit with a service animal and have questions about access to particular buildings, accommodation areas or farm facilities, please contact us in advance so we can discuss any practical considerations.
2. Website Accessibility
We are committed to making the Stepping Stones Farm & The Stables website as accessible and easy to use as reasonably possible for visitors of all abilities.
We recognize that people access websites in different ways. Some visitors use screen readers, screen magnification, keyboard navigation, voice recognition or other assistive technologies.
Our goal is to make our website’s content and functionality accessible to the widest possible audience.
We aim to work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, an internationally recognized standard for website accessibility.
As part of our ongoing efforts, we aim to:
-
Use clear, readable language and a logical page structure.
-
Maintain sufficient colour contrast between text and backgrounds.
-
Use descriptive headings and meaningful link text.
-
Provide alternative text for meaningful images wherever appropriate.
-
Ensure that important information is not communicated through colour alone.
-
Support keyboard navigation wherever possible.
-
Make forms, menus and interactive features as accessible as reasonably possible.
-
Consider accessibility when adding or updating website content.
We recognize that some content or features may not yet be fully accessible, and that third-party services or embedded content may have limitations outside our direct control.
We are committed to identifying accessibility barriers and addressing them as we become aware of them.
This statement describes our accessibility goals and ongoing efforts; it does not constitute a certification that the website complies with every applicable accessibility requirement.
How to Report a Website Accessibility Issue
If you experience difficulty accessing information on our website, using a feature or completing a form, we would appreciate hearing from you.
Please contact us through the Contact Us page on our website and describe:
-
The page or feature you were trying to use.
-
The accessibility problem you encountered.
-
The device, browser or assistive technology you were using, if you are comfortable sharing this information.
Please do not include medical information or other sensitive personal details.
We will make reasonable efforts to understand the issue, provide the information you need in an accessible alternative format where possible, and address the problem when feasible. Your feedback helps us improve the experience for everyone.
How We Can Help
We believe good hospitality begins with listening.
If you have accessibility requirements, please let us know when you inquire or book.
Our team will do its best to:
-
Provide accurate information about access to accommodations, facilities and outdoor areas.
-
Help guests identify the spaces and activities most suitable for their needs.
-
Discuss reasonable accommodation requests and available options.
-
Communicate openly about any limitations so guests can make informed decisions before their visit.
-
Consider individual needs and preferences wherever reasonably possible.
If you have questions about parking, entrances, bathrooms, sleeping arrangements, service animals or navigating the grounds, please contact us in advance. We will be happy to help.
An Inclusive Place for Everyone
Stepping Stones Farm welcomes families, friends, business teams, faith groups, wellness retreats, LGBTQ+ guests and people from all walks of life.
We are committed to treating every guest with dignity, respect and consideration. We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind.
We recognize that accessibility means different things to different people. We welcome feedback, suggestions and conversations that help us understand our guests’ needs and improve our facilities and services.
Our goal is to create an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves, connecting with others and enjoying the peace and beauty of the farm.
Planning Your Visit
As a historic rural property, we cannot guarantee that every building, facility or outdoor area will be accessible to every visitor.
Contacting us before booking allows us to provide the most accurate information about our facilities and work with you to make your visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
We encourage guests to discuss their individual requirements with us before making a reservation, particularly when accessible sleeping or bathroom facilities are essential.
We will always aim to be open about what we can offer and where limitations exist.
Our Ongoing Commitment
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment rather than a once-off task.
We will continue to listen to our guests, review our website and facilities, and consider practical improvements that can make Stepping Stones Farm & The Stables more accessible and welcoming.
We appreciate your patience as we work towards these goals and welcome your suggestions for improvement.
Everyone deserves to feel welcome. At Stepping Stones Farm, we will always do our best to make that happen.
